Traces of the past

You can find the remaining of the mines that existed in these regions. The ancient slagheaps add to the pollution of the rivers. You can find a number of locations where uranium deposits are in plenty. This shows that there were commercial mining of uranium in these regions. By virtue of this only some wind farms have been constructed here since the creation of the zone. So the development is to be sustainable and limited.

About the Lozere area

General No Comments »

The 2/3 rd portion of total Lozere population is situated in this region which makes the development tougher in this zone. The ancient route ways are marked with the help of stones. The stones also have minerals associated with them. Among this, lead is the most popular one. The soil is poor in quality and the climate is harsh. Hence the shortage of water never affects the plants present in this area in the summer months.

River dependency

The southern slopes of the Pont De Monvert always rely on the river for the needs of water. The great violent storm happened on the night in October 2001 caused a big flood to happen in this area which caused the discharge to be of around 0.88 m3 per second. The study of the river came up with various results including the gradient level, velocity, average depth etc. the overall decrease in gradient and increase in velocity was as expected.

About land use

The land use management can be done with hypo’s land use. The fields near water are more fertile and hence can be linked to rivers. Around 15-20 farms are analyzed, plotted on map and this distance is then worked out on the variable. We started our work from the ridge and we got information on the land uses. On the ridge, the Clitter or the large granite boulders are not that suitable for the production using the land.

Sustainibilty of Mt Lozere

As we started collecting data, we found that plant growth is inversely proportional to the altitude. We realized that Mt.Lozere is highly sustainable. We found the variation in species found in the high altitudes is less compared to that found in the lower altitude. Also the species found in plant kingdom is varying with the path. The velocity and efficiency are directly related. At the same time, efficiency is indirectly connected to the gradient.

About Rivers

The splashing of the river in the high U regions makes the conversion of kinetic energy to the sound energy. The studies have proved that the part of the river in this portion is not that efficient as that like Thames. The gradient in this area is higher than that found in the lower sites. This will make the flow of water to have high speeds and as such water sports may not be a good idea.
